Whether you’ve been planning for years or commit at the last minute, our rolling admission enables students to apply anytime up to the first day of the semester in which they intend to first enroll or re-enroll. We prioritize the flexibility to apply for admission when it’s convenient for you and work with students individually to customize their class schedules. Below you’ll find materials that are needed to complete your application for admission depending on your applicant status.
First-Time New Student (Freshman)
Official High School Transcript: Your high school counselor is likely the best contact for help requesting your official document. To be considered official, each high school transcript must be submitted directly from the issuing school via electronic clearinghouse (i.e., Parchment) or USPS. NMU does not accept scanned, emailed, or faxed transcripts as official documents. GED scores can be requested here.
Standardized Test Scores: An official ACT or SAT score report must be sent directly from the testing organization. If you do not select NMU as one of the schools to have your scores automatically sent to after you’ve completed the exam, you’ll need to request that a score report is sent from one of these sites:
Transfer and Post-Baccalaureate Students
Official College Transcript(s): Contact the Registrar/Records Office at each of the previous colleges or universities you’ve attended. To be considered official, each transcript must be sent directly from each issuing institution via online clearinghouse or USPS.
If you have not attended any other college after your last time enrolled at NMU, you only need to submit an online application for re-entry admission; no fee required.
If you HAVE attended one or more colleges or universities after your last enrollment at Northern, request that an official transcript is sent directly from each issuing institution to NMU via online clearinghouse or USPS.
